BBC Director General and News Chief Executive resign over Trump’s speech distortion

The BBC has resigned following allegations and controversy that it edited US President Donald Trump’s speech and misled the public. BBC Director General Tim Davey and News Chief Executive Deborah Turns resigned. An

internal BBC was leaked from Michael Prescott, a former adviser to the BBC Editorial Standards Committee, and was reported by The Telegraph. This led to the incident being exposed.

The criticism was raised over Trump’s speech, which was included in the BBC Panorama documentary Trump A Second Chance, which aired last year. The accusation was that Trump’s speech was edited to make it appear as if it encouraged the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021. The accusation was that Trump’s two separate speeches were edited into one and included in the documentary to mislead the public.

Tim Davie responded that some mistakes had been made and that he took responsibility as Director General. The controversy surrounding the editing of
