Bishop Richard Moth has been appointed as the new head of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. The church has confirmed that he has been appointed as the 12th Archbishop of Westminster. Bishop Richard Moth’s appointment succeeds Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who took up the position of Archbishop 16 years ago and was recently embroiled in controversy over some sexual allegations. Cardinal Vincent Nichols is retiring from service completely.

Bishop Moth responded immediately after learning of the news, saying that he was grateful for the trust placed in him by Pope Leo XIV. He also expressed gratitude for the help provided by the retiring Cardinal Vincent Nichols.
He said that his first task upon assuming office would be to personally meet all the vicars and other officials under the archdiocese. He also announced that he would work with everyone to further strengthen the foundation of the church. As usual, Cardinal Nicholls had offered to resign when he turned 75.
