UK Ramps Up Sanctions Against Russia Amid Escalating Airstrikes

Britain targets Moscow’s shadow fleet and weapons suppliers in its toughest measures yet.

The United Kingdom has announced a fresh wave of sanctions against Russia, targeting more than 100 individuals and companies. The measures focus on Moscow’s so-called “shadow fleet” used to transport oil, as well as suppliers of weapons components including electronics, chemicals and explosives.

The move comes in response to an intensification of Russian drone and missile attacks, alongside repeated violations of NATO airspace. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper travelled to Kyiv to reaffirm Britain’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.

Officials argue the sanctions will tighten the squeeze on Russia’s war machine, though questions remain over how effective such measures can be in curbing Moscow’s ability to wage war.
