Reeves to introduce road charging tax targeting electric vehicle drivers

1 Min Read

Rachel Reeves is targeting drivers who have switched from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles as part of her environmental friendliness with a road charging tax. The Chancellor is now making a move to pocket those who have bought EVs out of love for nature, despite the higher price.

The new strategy is to make up for the shortfall in fuel duty. The Chancellor is trying to introduce a new road charging tax in the budget . This is aimed at those who use electric vehicles. Treasury sources reveal that EVs will be charged 3 pence per mile in addition to other road taxes.

With this, the average driver will have to pay 250 pounds per year by 2028. In addition to this, hybrid cars will also have a new charge. However, this rate will be relatively low. The new tax is being introduced in a situation where fuel duty revenue is falling.

More drivers are moving to green energy, which is reducing the Treasury’s income . It is expected that six million additional EVs will be on the roads by the time the scheme starts.
