An Avanti-West Coast train travelling from Glasgow to London derailed near Cumbria. The accident occurred at 04.28 am on the morning of the day it was derailed. Authorities said that passengers were safely evacuated and no one was injured.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander, who described the accident as a “major incident”, said train services north of Preston had been disrupted following the incident. She warned that services on the route could face disruption in the coming days. Railway authorities are taking steps to ensure safe travel for passengers.
