The Union Home Ministry has approved the setting up of an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Vizhinjam International Port. With this, goods can be transported from the Vizhinjam Port to various parts of the country via road and rail. With more ships carrying goods arriving, the state will have a huge economic benefit.

Currently, the method is to transport goods in large ships and then from the port to other locations in small feeder ships. However, with the approval of the integrated check post, there will be a huge saving in time and cost. It is also expected to give a big boost to the state’s logistics sector and investment potential.

Authorities have announced that the construction of a new road connecting the port to the national highway is ongoing and will be completed within a month. The state hopes that with the development of infrastructure, Vizhinjam will emerge as a major cargo hub in South India.
